Rapid urbanization and the associated land cover and land use change, and resource depletion assert extensive negative impact on climate, degradation of ecosystems and biodiversity, and on human health and well-being. Societal calls for responses and results pose a significant challenge for research, innovation and education in the various fields concerned with human impact on the environment. Alongside the current environmental and pandemic crises comes the unprecedented level of digitalization and pressing need for advancing ‘green solutions’ for the built environment.

In the wake of these developments a shift from narrow disciplinary and domain-specific approaches toward broader interdisciplinary, multi-domain and multi-scalar strategies, is required. This includes inclusive data-acquisition, data-sharing and integration, and data-driven modelling to enable tackling the complexity of sustainability problems. While there exist efforts to address problems of interoperability of methods and tools, the actual problem goes deeper, requiring interdisciplinary knowledge exchange to identify or develop adequate shared paradigms, concepts, methods and tools.

CpA issue 5 aims to address these issues by inviting experts from a range of disciplines concerned with environmental degradation that utilize data-acquisition, data-sharing and integration, and data-driven modelling to identify modalities for a broader interdisciplinary, multi-domain and multi-scalar approach. Deadline for submissions is 10/05/2021.
